The Malloy Aeronautics Team:

Malloy Aeronautics Limited specializes in the development of heavy lift unmanned air vehicles (UAVs) for both civilian and military uses. Located in Berkshire, our operations are notable for their focus on in-house design and manufacturing. This vertical integration means we control the production of most aircraft components on-site, enhancing our ability to innovate and maintain high standards across all stages of development.

About The Role: -

· Bachelor’s or advanced degree in an applicable engineering field, or equivalent work experience.

· Experience in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Electrical engineering experience working with drones, directly pertaining to vehicle design or robotic systems, preferably in the UAV space (professional setting).

· Evidence of past work testing complex systems in an incremental and safe manner.

· Experience building vehicles or robots utilizing high-power drives or actuators.

· Adept use of hand tools, power tools, and machining equipment are necessities for this role.

· Ability to commit to national and international travel.

· Methodical approach to reviewing logs, identifying common problems (e.g., faulty GPS or Lidar), and running effective debugging processes.

· Ability to explain technical details to customers concisely and expertly, promoting our product’s capabilities.

· Creating and owning documentation for a variety of technical, program, and testing needs.

What you’ll being doing:

As a UAS Trials Engineer, you’ll play a pivotal role in our mission to revolutionize UAS technology. Here’s what your days will look like:

1. Integration and Debugging:

o Seamlessly integrate and debug complex systems involving electrical, electro-mechanical, and software components on UAS and test fixtures.

o Collaborate with internal and third-party engineering teams to integrate new systems and payloads.

2. Project Leadership:

o Define work for engineers and technicians to achieve integration goals.

o Create comprehensive testing plans to evaluate the performance of every element of a new capability.

3. Flight Operations:

o Support flight test safety and integration testing.

o Understand UAS regulations to facilitate applications for operational authorizations

o Work closely with our Flight-Testing team, participating in pre- and post-flight procedures and operating in the Ground Control Station.

4. Technical Expertise:

o Adept use of hand tools, power tools, and machining equipment.

o Data analysis experience using off-the-shelf packages or self-scripted tools (e.g., Python, C++).

o Familiarity with composite structures and instrumentation and data acquisition systems.

5. Troubleshooting and Innovation:

o Lead troubleshooting efforts during ground and air tests.

o Design and build new test fixtures to enhance our capabilities.

6. Data Analysis and Trials:

o Collect and analyse data for reporting and performance improvement identification.

o Support the planning of complicated national and international trials.

Desired Skills and Experiences:

  • Proficient in using CAD software (SolidWorks)
  • Knowledgeable about mesh radios and their configuration, including frequencies and bandwidth.
  • Data analysis experience using off-the-shelf packages or self-scripted tools (e.g., Python, C++).
  • Software development experience, including protocols like Serial, I2C, and CAN.
  • Familiarity with composite structures.
  • Machine automation exposure, including the use of sensors (EO, Lidar, radar sensors).
