 This role requires the ability to travel 70% of the time (including some weekend travel). 


As a UAS Pilot, you will be responsible for performing detailed field inspections and evaluations of Transmission, Distribution, and Substation assets.  

Duties & Responsibilities: 

  • Perform Comprehensive Visual Inspections (CVIs) for transmission, distribution, and communication assets. This requires advanced piloting skills by maneuvering UAVs near and around complex, high voltage assets. Responsible for missions that require lower levels of risk mitigation such as farm lands, remote locations, etc.
  • Mapping and land survey autonomous missions to produce high resolution orthomosaic maps used for vegetation analysis. This includes both photogrammetry and LiDAR data collection.
  • Emergency Storm Response flight to identify major damage areas
  • Perform product installations via drone
  • Proficient in understanding and reading FAA sectional maps
  • Responsible for obtaining airspace authorization by completing certificates of waivers (CoW) from the FAA when required
  • Able to effectively communicate airspace requirements with representatives from the FAA, TSA, and customers internal flight departments 
  • Perform all aspects of the role with a focus on safety
  • Review images on sight and complete checklist items required by customer
  • Identifies anomalies and classifies assets
  • Effectively operate UAS in accordance with all federal and local regulations, and company policies
  • Maintain UAS aircraft and support equipment
  • Ensure all work is completed within the designated schedule and meets applicable expectations and quality standards, and performance requirements set by customer and PLP
  • Ensure all work is carried out safely, and within PLP, OSHA, and customer safety guidelines
  • Perform duties with minimum supervision
  • Data Analysis work in support of ongoing inspection projects
  • Cross trained to be a backup field tech

 


Qualifications & Requirements: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent. B.S. in Aeronautics, Professional Aviation, Engineering discipline or Management is preferred.
  • FAA Part 107 Certification
  • Aeronautical knowledge
  • 100+ combined professional and/or recreational flight hours as pilot in command (PIC) for multi-rotor aircraft in manual flight modes 
  • 1+ years’ experience as PIC or sensor operator of multi-rotor aircraft in both manual and autonomous flight modes.
  • Proficient in most modern UAS hardware – to include sensors, and relevant software.
  • Basic understanding of photography equipment and camera settings.

  • Ability to travel 70% of the time (including some weekend travel)
