About Us:

The Times-Picayune | New Orleans Advocate is an award-winning, locally owned news organization committed to telling the stories of New Orleans and Southeast Louisiana with depth, accuracy, and heart. Our photography department plays a key role in documenting the moments, people, and issues that define our communities.
 

Position Overview:

We’re looking for a versatile, creative, and deadline-driven photographer to join our New Orleans-based photo team. This full-time role demands strong technical skills, an eye for compelling visual storytelling, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively under tight deadlines.
 

The ideal candidate is equally comfortable covering breaking news, sports, politics, and community features — and thrives on capturing images that resonate with readers across print, digital, and social platforms.
 

Key Responsibilities:

• Cover daily assignments including breaking news, sports, features, and enterprise stories.
• Produce compelling, newsworthy images and videos that meet our editorial standards.
• Work closely with reporters, editors, and designers to develop and execute visual storytelling concepts.
• File images quickly and accurately under deadline pressure, with proper captions and metadata in AP style.
• Pitch original photo story ideas and contribute to long-term projects.
• Operate and maintain professional camera and lighting equipment.
• Adhere to the highest ethical standards in photojournalism.
• Represent The Times-Picayune | Nola.com in the community with professionalism and sensitivity.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in photojournalism, journalism, or related field — or equivalent professional experience.
• Strong portfolio showcasing a range of news, sports, and feature photography.
• Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, Photo Mechanic, and basic video editing software.
• Working knowledge of AP style for captions and metadata.
• Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as news dictates.
• Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and ability to cover assignments across the region.
• FAA drone certification a plus.
• Bilingual skills a plus (especially Spanish or Vietnamese).
