A Drone Operator Pilot is needed for an American defense, aviation, information technology, and biomedical research company in the Troy, MI area. The Aeronautical Drone Operator Pilot researches, designs, and tests aerospace systems, serves as a drone flying SME, collaborates with diverse teams.

responsibilities:
  • Research, design, develop, and test structures, propulsion units, and guidance/control subsystems for various aerospace vehicles, including aircraft, spacecraft, missiles, power plants, satellites, and related systems.

  • Analyze aerospace product or equipment specifications and performance requirements to determine feasible designs using existing manufacturing methods.

  • Address the integration of all components constituting an aerospace vehicle, such as power, communications, thermal control, and life support subsystems.

  • Focus on elements of aerospace engineering including aerodynamics, propulsion, control or flight design, and structures.

  • Develop test plans, modify aircraft, create custom flight profiles, and provide technical solutions.

  • Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on projects and programs involving drone pilot flying or related activities.

  • Collaborate with individuals from diverse backgrounds, including engineering, science, military operations, aviation, and maintenance.
Skills:

  • Knowledge of MAVLink parameters, configuration, and telemetry modules.

  • Experience in downloading and interpreting MAVLink log messages.

  • Proficiency in configuring RC equipment (e.g., FrSky, Spektrum).

  • RC model/hobby experience with Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) multi-rotor or fixed-wing aircraft.

  • In-depth knowledge of Pixhawk autopilots.

  • AUVSI Trusted Operator Program (TOP) certification.

  • FAA Private Pilot Certificate or higher.

  • Familiarity with regulations, risk, and safety analysis techniques.
Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED with

  • A minimum of 1 year of applicable Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) experience.
