Overview

We are seeking a reliable candidate for a part-time Visual Observer (VO) position, required to work from Tuesday to Thursday each week. Attendance on these specific days is essential. This position is 100% onsite, requiring the candidate to be physically present at our location from Tuesday to Thursday.

This role is a member of our ground crew and an integral part of our operation.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for alerting the Safety Pilot or Pilot in Command (PIC) to
    • Ground objects that may present a hazard
    • Where varies terrain or other factors may make it difficult for the Safety Pilot or Pilot in Command (PIC) to maintain a direct line of sight
  • Scan the skies for potential objects
  • Scan the skies to identify potential hazards and notify the Safety Pilot or PIC of those hazards as they arise to take action to avoid those issues
  • Support the Safety Pilot or PIC in flying within the bounds of what is legally permissible
  • Use radio communications equipment to communicate hazards and location of the drone
  • Partake in flight procedures and flight route planning
  • Other duties as required

Skills and/or Competencies:

  • Having knowledge about weather conditions, ground hazards, and airborne hazards that can impact flying conditions
  • Deep understanding of safety and having experience in safety operations
  • Ability to make good decisions under pressure using sound, professional judgment
  • Effective verbal communication skills with the ability to work as part of a team involving
  • Ability to work with limited supervision
  • Willingness to work outdoors and the ability to walk and stand extensively
  • Valid G license


Hours of Work, Work Environment and Potential Travel

  • Part-time – from Tuesday to Thursday
  • This position is 100% onsite, requiring the candidate to be physically present at our location from Tuesday to Thursday.
  • Shifts will be 8 hours per day
  • Location: Edmonton
  • Valid Class G Driver Licence in good standing and regular access to a personal vehicle required
  • Outdoor work, exposure to cold, heat or other weather elements
  • High concentration levels required during flight operations
