The Morton Arboretum is a world-renowned nonprofit with a unique opportunity for a creative self-starter with an interest in trees, nature, and conservation. We’re seeking someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and has experience producing high quality short-form videos for promotional and educational uses. You’ll be part of a talented Marketing and Communications team, working in a hybrid remote/business casual office environment on 1,700 acres of nature and beauty.

Position Summary: Serve as the primary videographer, developing and producing promotional and educational videos relating to the mission and activities of the Arboretum, to engage and inform various audiences. Work closely with the Marketing and Communications team and other departments to develop ideas for videos that position the Arboretum as a leading scientific center of tree expertise globally.

Essential Functions:
  • Partner with departments throughout the organization, primarily Learning and Engagement, Science and Conservation, Development, and Retail and Events, to plan and produce impactful videos that meet organizational goals.
  • Generate ideas for engaging content that communicates the Arboretum’s mission and inspires viewers to take action.
  • Manage the pre-production process, including working with Arboretum writers to develop creative briefs, scripts, and storyboards, cross-departmental alignment.
  • Film video in a variety of indoor and outdoor settings.
  • Shoot drone footage and manage drone flight applications from media and other organizations.
  • Conduct on-camera interviews with staff and external spokespeople for inclusion in videos.
  • Perform post-production responsibilities including editing footage and inserting graphics, music, and effects.
  • Produce b-roll footage for television and other media use.
  • Stay current on, and adhere to, video best practices and the Americans with Disabilities Act accessibility recommendations.
  • Perform routine video equipment maintenance and recommend equipment purchases within budget
  • Implement post-production, storage and archival workflow according to Arboretum standards.
  • Demonstrate alignment with the Arboretum’s employee core values to be inclusive, take ownership, work together, keep learning and make the Arboretum exceptional.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Associate’s degree required, preferably in Communications/Video Production. 3+ years professional experience creating video content for a range of uses required, including websites, social media, or community outreach. In lieu of the degree requirement, 5+ years comparable professional experience required. Drone pilot license or willingness to begin the process to obtain a license upon employment. Proven ability to tell a compelling story through video, to engage a variety of audiences. Demonstrated experience with video editing programs and photography editing software including Photoshop required. Strong organizational, writing and verbal communication skills required. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google applications beneficial.

  • Physical Demands: Work requires some physical activity: lifting and carrying video equipment (up to 20 lbs.), and walking over a variety of terrain in all weather conditions.
  • Work Environment: Work is performed both indoors and outdoors.
  • Equipment: General office equipment, DSLR HD camera/video camera, HD digital video camera, general video production equipment, Adobe suite—Premiere, Photoshop, After Effects, Illustrator, Audition, and DaVinci.
  • Schedule: Will require some early morning, evening and weekend work for film shoots and events.

The expected hiring range for this nonexempt position is annualized at $63,400 - $73,400 based on experience that will be evaluated during the candidate selection process.
