Position Focus

Provide remote sensing research support and resources at the Yale Center for Geospatial Solutions (YCGS). Reporting to the Managing Director supervise support team members including the Earth Observation Lab manager, research software engineer(s), data analyst(s), and student research assistants.

Essential Duties

  • Manages the day-to-day operations of shared equipment in a research facility. 2. Supervises administrative and technical staff related to the running of the facility. 3. Develops and implements protocols to facilitate user research. 4. Trains users on the operation and safe use of facility and equipment. 5. Maintains safety and regulatory compliance of facility and equipment. 6. Manages research, consults on research design, and projects associated with research of users. 7. Supports quality, integrity, and security of data outputs of equipment. 8. Designs research processes, implements and projects cost estimates. 9. In close collaboration with Business Office, develops sound business procedures for accurate scheduling and billing. Maintains source documentation for cost accounting purposes. 10. Interacts with vendors, suppliers, manufacturing companies, and other research institutions to develop and design specialized equipment and protocols. 11. Exchanges technical information. Stays abreast of new research technologies and safety advances. 12. May perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education And Experience

PhD or equivalent in a related field and a minimum of five years related work experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Skill/Ability 1

Experienced in satellite image analysis and Google Earth Engine.

Required Skill/Ability 2

Skilled in configuring desktops, working with gridded climate data, and using tools like ENVI, GDAL, GRASS, and Awk.

Required Skill/Ability 3

Proficient in Python, R, and other languages.

Required Skill/Ability 4

Knowledgeable about remote sensing data products, satellite data portals, and basic GIS applications.

Preferred Education, Experience And Skills

PhD in environmental or earth sciences, computer science, or related discipline and five years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Drone pilot license preferred.
