Automated aviation systems will enable a future where air transportation is safer, more convenient and fundamentally transformative to the way goods — and eventually people — move around the planet. We are a team of mission-driven engineers with experience across aerospace, robotics and self-driving cars working to make this future a reality.

As a Remote Piloting Test Engineer at Reliable Robotics, you will be a part of the Remote Piloting Software Team. This team is responsible for building the pilot-facing application software that is used to command the aircraft's advanced automation systems — both onboard, and remotely. You will join a team of interdisciplinary and mission-driven engineers with experience across aerospace, robotics, and self-driving vehicles.

Responsibilities

In your role as a Remote Piloting Test Engineer, you will drive the development and buildup of simulators, testbeds, and supporting software tools used for pilot training and human-in-the-loop testing. You will also support the release and verification process for flight software, a critical function of our flight test program. You will work in a highly collaborative environment and coordinate with multiple engineering teams across the company as you develop test plans, execute tests, investigate issues, and drive problems to closure. You will also have the opportunity to develop automated test cases and frameworks, and support the development of flight test UI software as needed. This is a hands-on role, involving the maintenance, installation, and troubleshooting of simulators and testbeds.

Basic Success Criteria

    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience
    • Private Pilot certificate or greater
    • 3+ years of experience testing integrated hardware/software products or safety-critical systems
    • 2+ years experience with C/C++, Python, and/or Javascript
    • Strong technical, organizational, problem-solving, and root-cause investigation skills
    • Excellent documentation and collaboration skills

Preferred Success Criteria

    • Previous experience managing software release, verification, and change processes
    • Experience coordinating with flight operations and engineering to develop flight test plans
    • Experience developing robotics or other safety critical software
    • Previous experience developing automated test cases
    • Demonstrated ability to build or maintain a hardware-in-the-loop test environment
    • Previous experience integrating flight simulators
    • Experience participating in flight testing or other flight related operations
    • 5+ years experience developing user-facing software
    • Experience working with large remotely operated systems (UAVs, spacecraft, etc)
    • Demonstrated ability to work in a self-directed manner in a fast-paced environment
Must be willing to travel 10% of the time.
