Part-Time Faculty - CPD Aerospace Academy Drone Pilot
Provide professional instruction for Continuing & Professional Development (CPD) classes offered through San Jacinto College including the Central, North, and/or South campuses as well as other off-site locations if necessary. Meet course training objectives with excellent instructor evaluations. Complete all required San Jacinto College course completion paperwork in a timely fashion. Applications for part-time faculty positions are accepted on a continuous basis and reviewed when openings become available. Instructors employed as part-time faculty are not entitled to all the rights, privileges, and benefits of regular, full-time employees. Part-time faculty are hired on an "as needed" basis and will work for the duration of time specified by the respective course. A portion of teaching assignment may include evening classes and possibly weekend classes.
Instructors may teach in the following topic areas: Small unmanned aircraft systems (sUAS) flight training, test prep, and other courses related to FAA Part 107 or sUAS systems.
Essential Duties:
- The instructor is expected to serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) and assist in creating, maintaining and sharing an outline/syllabus for the course.
- The instructor must effectively demonstrate course content and knowledge of related activities.
- The instructor will be responsible for adhering to desired student learning outcomes and teaching the content designed to convey craft skills acquisition in those outcomes.
- The instructor will assist in compiling the class supply list needed by the students and instructor for the completion of the class project.
Required Qualifications:
- Current FAA Remote Pilot Certificate as outlined in Part 107
- Knowledge and skills including: flight controls, aerodynamics, thorough understand of the National Airspace System (NAS), aviation weather, aviation safety, ethical airmanship, FAA Registration, and community-based safety guidelines.
- Training experience working with adult learners
- Information technology literacy skills
- Effective oral and written communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- An associate’s or bachelor’s degree in related field
- Minimum of one-year experience with at least 50 hours of logged Commercial flight time as Pilot In Command (PIC) under Part 107
- One or more years of experience in sUAS training and flight at a community college
- Curriculum design in an adult learning environment
- Direct experience in the aviation/aerospace industry or military experience
- Additional FAA certificates and/or ratings that would lead to the competencies required for the successful performance of the position's essential duties
