About the role

In this role, you will be accountable for all operational and compliance matters regarding the use of drones within the organisation, all Remote Pilot (RP) training affecting the safety of operations, communication with the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) and adherence of the organisation with the Civil Aviation Act, its relevant regulations, and manuals of standards (MOS).

Key responsibilities include:

  • Be the Chief Remote Pilot for the purposes of the Civil Aviation Safety Regulations 1998 (Cth) ensuring the City’s compliance with its legislative obligations in relation to its Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) and related operations.
  • Lead drone operations within the organisation to ensure they are conducted in compliance with the Civil Aviation Act and the Regulations, including the organisation’s Remote Operator Certificate (ReOC).
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures, monitor compliance for the safe and efficient operation of the organisation’s RPAS in accordance with CASA regulations.
  • Maintain a register of all pilots at the City, including training, endorsements, flight logs and incidents.
  • Approval and responsibility of all drone operations undertaken by City employees holding Remote Pilot Licenses.

 

About you

To be successful in this role, you will have the following:

Essential Experience:

  • Remote Pilot Licence (RePL) Sub 25kg weight category.
  • Aeronautical Radio Operator Certificate (AROC).
  • Proven experience with legislative documents such as acts, regulations, local laws and code of practice, and the ability to interpret and explain them.
  • Familiarisation with the processes involved in obtaining, managing and updating a company ReOC, and the responsibilities of the City’s Chief Remote Pilot.
